We are delighted to welcome Simon Wright as a consultant to Schlich. Simon has 35 years’ experience in the patent arena, especially in strategic and global IP planning of client portfolios. He has handled drafting and prosecution work, as well as contentious proceedings such as EPO oppositions and appeals. He specialises in the life sciences sector but has handled chemical, pharmaceutical and mechanical work for a wide variety of clients.

Simon is also a trade mark and design attorney and so can advise clients on all aspects of their IP. He has worked for two top London patent attorney firms and as a partner has helped grow the business, mentor trainees and offer strategic and relationship advice to a wide variety of different organisations. He has also acted as an in-house attorney for multinational businesses as well as start-ups.

Simon has acted for a range of clients, from US multinational companies to UK academic organisations and SMEs and so has a diverse perspective. He is thus able to tailor his advice to a variety of different organisations and their IP portfolios. He has been involved in oppositions and appeals concerning human pheromones, PCR, ultrasound contrast agents, medical devices and CRISPR and so can handle a wide range of different technologies.
Simon travels regularly, especially to the USA, and thrives on business development. He is a regular speaker at, and organiser of, scientific and IP conferences including, among others, the annual CIPA Life Sciences conference.
Simon is very active and senior in a number of professional bodies, which gives him a valuable insight into future legislative and practice changes, in particular before the EPO. This affords him a rare opportunity to influence IP law and practice.

We’re very excited to work with and welcome Simon to our ever-growing team at Schlich!
