Ben is a UK and European patent attorney, with more than 20 years of experience in IP. Ben joined Schlich as a consultant and is working with our team to provide his expertise in mechanical, software and physics based technologies.

Ben acts for a range of clients from start-ups to established companies. He drafts patent applications and handles the application process in a variety of technical fields. As well as routinely handling UK, European and US patent matters, Ben handles patent applications in all major jurisdictions.

Ben often works with engineers to identify inventions that later form the basis of valuable patent portfolios.  Ben also often advises on strategy, for example, why, when and where patents should be sought, in view of a company’s broader business strategy and budgets.

Ben carries out opinion work and has represented clients in contentious matters before the UK Intellectual Property Office and the European Patent Office.

Ben has extensive experience advising on and protecting design rights for the appearance of products.

Some of Ben’s recent work has related to mining equipment, drug administration devices, electric bicycles, software-based communications systems and consumer products of various types.  Ben has significant previous experience in patenting of automotive components and telecommunications technologies.
